As part of our monthly Pop-Up Kitchen event series, we are pleased to present the Israel Family Table in June where we will have Guest Chef Ayelet Idan, together with our own Chef Andy, who will be cooking some delicious vegetarian Israeli foods and sharing the stories behind her dishes at the same time.

Introducing Guest Chef Ayelet Idan

Chef Ayelet was born and raised in Israel, where she was greatly influenced by her grandparents’ cooking and her home country cuisines. She is also inspired by fresh ingredients in traditional Israeli cooking and has a passion for spreading the flavours of Israel.

Introducing Guest Performer Van Chan

Talented local singer-songwriter, Van Chan is the lead vocalist of the Hong Kong local band “Nowhere Boys”. Formed in 2014, Nowhere Boys is a group of independent musicians collaborating with each other in search of a new soft rock sound. Look out on our Facebook page for sneak previews of Van Chan’s performances with the Nowhere Boys.

Re-launching of Urban Health Popup Kitchen + Andy’s Corner

As many of you might know that we have been #1 on Tripadvisor for our private dining and cooking workshop experience for sometime, we are super thankful and grateful to all of our locals and international supporters. In order to carry on our mission to bring more healthy and allergy-free homey foods to the public, we are re-launching Urban Health Home Kitchen as Urban Health Pop-Up Kitchen.

We will be organizing a launch party on March 21, Saturday from 3pm – 5pm, at Opendoor Café and Courtyard. Come check out this awesome pop-up venue location for our future pop-up events, food tasting, drinks and more. I will be sharing with you our future plan for Urban Health Pop-up Kitchen, and what to expect in our future events.

Chinese New Year Celebrations in a Healthy Way

It is the time of the year where the Chinese get together to celebrate the spring festival, commonly known as Chinese New Year.

In this article, we look to provide insights to how we can celebrate Chinese New Year with the traditional Chinese food but cooked in a healthy way.

The recipe which we are introducing is a traditional Cantonese dish: “Dried oysters with black moss and mushrooms” (蠔豉髮菜冬菇).

The reason this dish is so popular during Chinese New Year is that the Cantonese name of this dish signifies “good things” (好事) and “flourish in wealth” (發財). You can find our healthier version of the recipe for the dish below, and also the nutritional value calculation for reference.

Urban Health Chinese Cooking Class

Have you ever felt like you wanted to go to the local Hong Kong wet markets and get great deals on fresh food but didn’t even know how or where to start? Have you ever wanted to know how to prepare Chinese-style dishes in a gluten free way? Well now’s your chance! This month the Urban Health Home Kitchen is very excited to announce our first ever wet market tour and cooking course event on Saturday, November 22nd.

Students will get to take a private tour with Chef Andy through the Central wet market, learning how to buy all the essential ingredients for the meal. Next, they will head to the Urban Health Home Kitchen to learn how to prepare two delicious gluten-free Chinese dishes! These include: Hainanese Chicken with rice alongside delicious home-made garlic chill sauce as well as tantalizing Chinese Garlic Steamed Prawns. This month at the Urban Health Home Kitchen we will be hosting two exciting themed night events:

October 18th–Mexican Rooftop Mingle

For those of you in love with Mexican food, get ready for the Mexican Mingle night on October 18th. Prepare yourselves for a true fiesta, including delicious seasoned re-fried beans and Mexican rice, heaps of the world’s best guacamole and salsa with corn chips, and beef and vegetarian tacos. All the fixings for margaritas alongside a blender will be provided–just bring your own bottle of tequila to pour in!

Last but not least, there will be a real deal piñata, equipped with treats! For those of you who do not know about piñatas, they are a papier mache animal stuffed with candy for guests to hit at with sticks until they explode! Muy Divertido (Very Fun)!
